Microsoft recently announced a new version of its in-car communication software used in Ford's Sync system as well as a new partnership with Nissan.
The software giant, based in Seattle, showcased the new technology in Detroit at SAE Convergence, a conference dedicated to the automotive industry and technology.
According to Microsoft, the latest version of the software will give automakers the ability to develop two and three-dimensional graphics. The software also includes updated speech recognition technology that will enable drivers to respond to text messages with voice commands.
Since its original introduction in 2007, the software has been used by other automakers in addition to Ford, including Hyundai and Fiat.
With its new Nissan partnership, Microsoft used a version of the software to develop a touch screen information center for the Leaf, which the Japanese automaker will launch in December.
