Car Loan News / Toyota recalls 412,000 vehicles for steering issues
In the latest recall by Toyota, the Japanese automaker will be taking back some 412,000 vehicles, mostly Avalons, in the U.S. because of steering problems.
The improper casting of the steering lock bar can cause cracks to form on the surface, forcing the car company to recall 373,000 of their 2000 to 2004 model year Avalons, according to the Associated Press. In addition, Toyota is taking back 39,000 Lexus LX470s for the model years 2003 through 2007 because of a steering problem that is different than the one affecting the Avalons.
Mark Templin, group vice president and general manager of Lexus, told the news source that the car maker has plans in place to deal with the issue going forward.
"Our engineers have thoroughly investigated this issue and have identified a robust and durable remedy that will help prevent this condition from affecting drivers in the future," he said.
This recall is just the latest for Toyota, which had to take back 8.5 million vehicles earlier this year because of an unintended acceleration problem.
