Car Loan News / Leaf, Volt, earn five-star safety ratings
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently awarded the Nissan Leaf an overall five-star safety rating in its latest round of tests for North American vehicles.
"The Nissan Leaf is the first all-electric vehicle to achieve five-star overall for safety," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president for Nissan North America. "Not only is the Leaf the most innovative car on the planet, it is also one of the safest."
While the Nissan Leaf is technically the first all-electric vehicle to earn the honor, that statement deserves a qualifier. Previously, the NHTSA awarded five stars to the Chevrolet Volt, the Leaf's biggest competition, as well. However, the Volt is technically considered to be a series hybrid due to its gas generator.
The Leaf earned five stars in the side crash test ratings, while posting four-star scores in rollover and frontal crashes.
The Leaf and Volt might be two of the safest models on the road today, but they're still expensive, even after federal tax credits. Consumers interested in these vehicles may want to consider utilizing car loan financing in order to make their purchases a reality.
