Car Loan News / July auto sales increase spurred by new models, pickups
The slight rise in Detroit auto sales during July was spurred by strong performances from new models, pickup trucks and demand for commercial vehicles.
Overall, the auto industry’s sales rose 5.2 percent, which was lower than some analysts expected, according to the Detroit Free Press.
"We know this is the slowest recovery we’ve seen in our adult lives, but it is a recovery," said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas, reports the news source.
While the major American automakers, Ford, GM and Chrysler, experienced increases in sales, those by Toyota and Honda fell 3.2 percent and 2 percent, respectively, during the month.
"Toyota and Honda are also being affected by the big incentives they offered earlier this year, which pulled ahead sales considerably," analyst Aaron Bragman of IHS Automotive in Northville, Michigan, told the news source.
GM experienced the largest gain among the Detroit three, with sales increasing 5.4 percent.

Sales of Ford vehicles increased 13.3 percent in June compared to the same month last year, and the gain was largely spurred by a strong showing by the carmaker’s Super Duty pickup trucks.
