With the current economic climate still a bit cooler than some would like, finding ways to save money is vital. That is why many car owners are turning to salvage yards to find used parts at a steep discount.Drivers are hanging onto their cars for longer due to budget concerns, according to the Detroit Free Press. Salvage yards throughout the country have been seeing an uptick in business because of this trend.
A recent study conducted by AutoMD.com, an auto repair information site, found that 56 percent of respondents intended to keep their cars until they died.
"Not only are consumers holding onto their vehicles for years longer but, more significantly, for miles longer, opting to repair and maintain rather than purchasing new," AutoMD’s president, Shane Evangelist, told the news source.
One person likely to fall into this category is Roy Meyer, who recently visited a salvage yard to find an air-conditioning compressor for a Ford Taurus. He found one and paid $35 for it; the part would have set Meyer back $373.32 had he bought it new.
Visiting salvage yards for parts is a great way to save money when it comes to one’s car. Another way to save is to get a competitive rate on a car loan from an online direct to consumer auto finance provider.
