Sales of Ford vehicles increased 13.3 percent in June compared to the same month last year, and the gain was largely spurred by a strong showing by the carmaker’s Super Duty pickup trucks.he redesigned Super Duty pickups saw a 58 percent increase in sales in June, reports the Detroit Free Press. This is likely a strong sign for the U.S. economy as heavy duty pickups are typically used by small businesses and an increase in sales of such vehicles could indicate that these companies are emerging from the recession.
Over the course of June, Ford sold 175,895 vehicles from its Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo brands. Volvo is in the process of being sold to the Chinese car company Geely.
The strong month was also caused by the arrival of the Ford Fiesta, a subcompact. More than 1,000 of these vehicles were sold in June even though they did not arrive in showrooms until later in the month.
“New products continue to drive Ford’s success,” Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, said, according to the news source.
